About Coach Southall

Coach Southall has led the Vandegrift Volleyball program since the fall of 2017, transforming it into one of the most successful programs in the state. Under her leadership, the Vipers have captured five district titles (2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2024), including the first district championship in program history in 2017.In 2024, Coach Southall guided the team to the UIL 6A Division II State Semifinals, marking the deepest playoff run in program history. That same season, the Vipers made their first-ever State Tournament appearance and earned a bronze medal, solidifying a historic year for the program.Coach Southall’s excellence has been widely recognized. She was named the 2024 THSCA Region 8 Coach of the Year and has earned District Coach of the Year honors five times (2018, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024). Early in her career at Vandegrift, she was also selected for the AVCA “30 Under 30” Award in 2018. She holds an impressive overall record of 265–129 and has led the team to the postseason every year of her tenure.Her coaching philosophy centers on discipline, hard work, mental toughness, and execution. She views the court as a classroom, emphasizing the development of both athletic ability and volleyball IQ. Beyond the game, Coach Southall is deeply committed to fostering personal growth and building meaningful relationships that contribute to lasting character development in her athletes.Outside of volleyball, Coach Southall prioritizes family life. She and her husband, Matt, are raising their three young children.
